Privacy Policy
This website is operated by the Sunshine Protection Project, a 501(c)(3) organization, and the Sunshine Protection Action Fund, a 501(c)(4) organization. We refer to them together as "we" or "us" below.
The short version
-
We never sell or rent your information. Not to anyone, for any price.
-
We never give your information to other organizations, campaigns, candidates, or political parties.
-
If you sign a petition, we may occasionally email you updates about the Sunshine Protection Act (ordinarily no more than twice a month). You can unsubscribe at any time, and we will honor it promptly.
-
You can ask us to delete your information and we will.
The rest of this page explains the details.
What we collect
When you sign a petition or contact your representatives, our petition tool collects your name, email address, postal address or ZIP code, and any personal message you write. We need your address because Congressional offices only accept messages from their own constituents, and the address is how the system routes your message to the right office.
When you visit the site, standard information that web servers record automatically: your IP address, browser type, which pages you viewed, and the site that referred you. We also use a tool called Microsoft Clarity, which records anonymized information about how visitors interact with pages, including mouse movement, scrolling, and clicks. This helps us understand whether our pages are working. Clarity does not capture keystrokes in password fields, and we have it configured to mask sensitive form input.
When you arrive from an ad, if you reached us through a Facebook or Instagram ad, Meta's advertising tools record that a visit or a petition signature occurred. This tells us which ads are working. We do not receive your Facebook profile information.
How we use data
-
To deliver your petition message to your Congressional/Senate representatives.
-
To send you updates about the Sunshine Protection Act and about our work.
-
To tell Congressional offices how many of their constituents have signed.
-
To understand which pages and ads are effective so we can spend our budget well.
Email: how often, and how to stop
If you sign a petition, we may email you.
Under normal circumstances we will send no more than two emails per month. We would rather you read what we send than delete it. There is one exception; if a vote is scheduled, a bill moves unexpectedly, or a deadline falls within a few days, we may send additional time-sensitive alerts so you can act while it still matters. We will keep these rare and we will say clearly why we are writing.
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you are off the list. If the link ever fails, email Info@SaveSunshine.org and we will remove you by hand.
We will never text you, call you, or send you mail.
Cookies
This site uses cookies, which are small files stored by your browser. We use them to make the site work, to measure traffic through Microsoft Clarity, and to measure ad performance through Meta. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Parts of the site may not work correctly if you do. We do not currently respond to Do Not Track browser signals, because there is no common standard for what a site should do when it receives one.
Children
This site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email Info@SaveSunshine.org and we will delete it.
